Visual Identity

Branding project done for a university work briefing.

Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB) is a very important cultural promoter in Lisbon and hosts a lot of different activities such as talks, performances, exhibitions, concerts, etc. It’s a space that welcomes artistic diversity and invites people to connect to them. The challenge was to create a new branding and its system.

The Building
As a physical space, CCB’s building was a landmark in portuguese architecture and the structure of it shapes the way the institution works. It’s a geometrically orgnized range of block-shaped buildings combined with outdoor spaces that resemble plazas and pathways, just like a ‘city inside the city’.

Logo proposal
The particularities of the building served as inspiration to redesign some glyphs, integrating rectangular blocks into them - and the promotion of different cultural practices motivated the typography choice, a font that mixes harmoniously uppercase and lowercase letters.

Icons
Due to the scale and complex logistics of this institution, I also developed an icon system to improve the communication of it.

Using the block motifs present on the logo, the icons where created to better identify places, services or regular events and aggregate all of them into CCB’s graphic identity.
